Freeport is in Walton County near the eastern end of Choctawhatchee Bay at the mouth of the Choctawhatchee River. Freeport is the crossroads between North and South Walton County. It’s about half-hour's drive to the beaches and golf courses in South Walton County. Residents love their close proximity to Santa Rosa Beach. Eglin AFB also borders the city limits.

Freeport is about an hour drive of the Northwest Florida Regional Airport and the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. Freeport is a growing city with a population of about 3000 in 2022.
